“Vietnam Week 2008” scheduled in Japan from Sept. 15-21 will bring vivid images of Vietnamese landscape, culture and people to Japanese people through a series of activities and performances, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

At a press briefing in Hanoi on Sept. 5, Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Culture and UNESCO Department Pham Sanh Chau affirmed that the cultural week, part of celebrations of the 35 th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties (1973-2008), will be the most significant event Vietnam has ever organised in a foreign country.

Vietnam will send a 200-strong delegation to the event, while 12 Japanese art troupes and 200-300 businesses plan to take part in activities during the week.

The Vietnam Week will include a photo exhibition on Vietnam’s landscape and people, a Vietnam-Japan cultural gala night, a Vietnamese festival programme and a forum on Vietnam-Japan economic cooperation, to be organised in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya cities, said the organising board.

According to Minister of the Japanese embassy in Vietnam Daisuke Matsunaga, the Vietnam Week will not only be an opportunity for enhancing mutual cultural exchange and understanding, but also a good chance for boosting bilateral trade, investment and tourism.

The diplomat said he believed the cultural week will be a success, helping further develop the fine relationship between the two countries.
